About south seatown council
You were able to Surf the net at Southsea Town Council offices. Whether you were job-hunting, car-buying or finding out what was happening locally, nationally or even internationally, you could do it at the Town Council offices where the Council did make available a computer from which the public was able to access the internet. The service could be used weekdays from 10:30am to 3:30pm.
The Southsea Town Council office was a community resource and it was the intention of the Town Council to develop and increase its use by the community. Later the office was used for Police Surgeries and the Citizen's Advice Bureau, in addition to which displays were encouraged and sales of local arts and crafts did take place for which the Town Council did receive a commission. Two book reading evenings had been piloted which were particularly successful.
Hire of the offices during evenings had been extended to any group or individual (non-political) that resided in Southsea.
